Implants
What Are They?
Implant dentistry is the most advanced therapy available to replace missing teeth. Dental implant restorations generally look, feel and act like natural teeth.

Dental implants may offer you important advantages compared to other treatment options: improved good health and enhanced appearance, which may lead to greater self confidence and a better quality of life.

In conjunction with high-end cosmetic dentistry, implants replace missing teeth in a way that is virtually undetectable. Patients experience the amazing difference implants can make in their lives. No longer do they have bulky, unattractive, and high maintenance dentistry.

A patient who has a bridge, is missing teeth, or is about to lose a tooth is a candidate for this wonderful therapy.

The process is really quite simple. Implants are placed by a surgeon in a comfortable procedure that takes less than 30 minutes which is typically done under safe local anesthesia. One implant can be placed for a single tooth or a series of implants can be placed to replace multiple teeth.

The implant now needs to heal for eight to twelve weeks. During this time, the missing space will be restored with a temporary restoration as needed.

After the implant has fully healed, an impression of the teeth is taken and a crown, bridge or denture is made to fit the dental implant or implants. The result is incredible both because of it’s natural feel and attractive appearance.

Dental Implant Temporary Instructions
Today you have had a dental implant placed by a surgeon. Follow all instructions that the surgeon has given to you for the safe healing of your new implant. It has been determined that you need a temporary crown or bridge during the healing phase over the next eight to twelve weeks.

The purpose of this temporary is two fold. First, it esthetically fills in the space where your tooth is missing, allowing you to enjoy your smile during the healing phase. Secondly, it aids in the proper esthetic contour of your gums.

Your home care around the new implant is very important. Please use the rubber tip instrument as instructed around your temporary. It is critically important that the temporary not hit your other teeth during this healing phase. If at anytime during this phase you feel you are bumping the temporary please call our office to have it evaluated.

If this is a front tooth, Dr. Bernal will want to see you in one to two weeks after the placement of the implant and temporary to evaluate the cosmetic healing of the gum tissue. Adjustments to the temporary will be made at that time if necessary.

If you have any problems or concerns at all, please call our office.
